Description
This mod is a comprehensive, surgical optimization config designed to salvage game performance and deliver a smooth, playable experience on older, budget, and legacy graphics cards running Subnautica 2.
While modern game engines like Unreal Engine 5 are tailored for next-gen hardware, this tweak completely rebalances internal rendering systems to bring life back to legendary mid-range and budget GPUs.

Main Features
• UE5 Engine Tweaks: Optimized core settings for better frame delivery on legacy hardware.[/*]
Installation Instructions
1. Engine.ini Tweaks
Place the provided lines into your
Engine.iniImportant: Prevent File Overwrite After saving your changes in
Engine.ini, you must prevent the game from resetting it to default.
• Right-click on the
Engine.inifile.[/*]
• Select Properties.[/*]
• In the "General" tab, check the Read-only box.[/*]
• Click Apply and OK. If you don't do this, the game may overwrite your tweaks, and the mod will stop working.[/*]

File Location You need to place (or overwrite) the
Engine.inifile in the following directory:

2. OptiScaler Setup (Crucial Step)
Since the game currently lacks native FSR support, using OptiScaler is highly recommended:
• Install OptiScaler into the following directory:
... Subnautica2 Binaries Win64 (next to
Subnautica2-Win64-Shipping.exe).[/*]
• IMPORTANT: During OptiScaler installation, you must enable DLSS Spoofing.[/*]
• Launch the game and press the Insert key to open the OptiScaler menu.[/*]
• Upscaling Method: Switch to FSR 3.1 (or 3.0). Do not use XeSS, as it significantly reduces performance on RX 400 cards.[/*]
• Frame Generation: Select DLSS (Nukem mod) as the generation method.[/*]
• Click Save at the bottom of the menu and restart the game.[/*]
• In the game's Video settings, you can now toggle DLSS Frame Generation to "On".
Why OptiScaler is required: Legacy NVIDIA GTX and ALL AMD Radeon GPUs do not support DLSS, and the game currently lacks native FSR. OptiScaler acts as a bridge, allowing your card to "pretend" it supports DLSS. This unlocks the in-game DLSS menu, enabling all AMD owners to activate modern FSR 4.0 upscaling and Frame Generation (via Nukem mod) on any hardware. Without this tool, achieving smooth frame rates in Subnautica 2 on older cards is impossible.
