Finds nearby unfinished exploration targets such as scannables, Data Cards, Black Boxes, Quartz Chips and player upgrade terminals, then marks the best target with a native in-game ping and automatically advances after completion.

ScannerPlus
Author: MikeDerUnwissende2
Mod Version: 0.1.2.2.7
Target Game Version: Subnautica 2 EA 0.1.2.2-128456
Build Date: 2026-09-05
Versioning scheme
The first four numbers follow the supported Subnautica 2 version.
The final number is the ScannerPlus build number.
Versions prior to 0.1.2.2.7 used the previous three-game-version-numbers-plus-build-number scheme.
Known Issues
• In savegames upgraded from EA 0.1.2.1 to 0.1.2.2, some previously used Quartz Chips may still be marked by ScannerPlus.
This appears to be related to the savegame conversion: the Quartz Chip actor may be recreated or treated as a new item after the upgrade, even though it had already been used in the older savegame.
ScannerPlus can only evaluate the state currently provided by the game.
If the upgraded savegame reports such an actor as new or unused, the mod has no reliable way to determine that it had already been used before the conversion.
This issue does not appear to occur in newly created 0.1.2.2 savegames.[/*]
Exploration Note
ScannerPlus can significantly reduce the amount of manual searching required.
For a more exploration-focused experience, it is recommended to explore new areas normally first and use ScannerPlus afterwards to locate missed targets and collectibles.
Using the scanner continuously from the beginning may reduce some of the intended sense of discovery and exploration challenge.
Overview
ScannerPlus is a lightweight exploration aid for Subnautica 2.
Instead of manually searching every cave, wreck and facility for missed collectibles or scan targets, ScannerPlus searches the currently loaded area around the player and points to the next relevant unfinished target using Subnautica 2's native ping system.
It currently supports Scannable Objects, Data Cards, Black Boxes, Quartz Chips and Player Upgrade Terminals.
After a target has been completed, ScannerPlus automatically searches for the next one.
The scanner can be toggled on or off at any time with the P key.
The ScannerPlus settings menu can be opened or closed with the O key.
Requirements
ScannerPlus was developed and tested with:
• Subnautica 2 Early Access 0.1.2.2-128456[/*]
• UE4SS (d7e7826d)[/*]
Installation
Vortex Installation:
Vortex installation is supported and has been tested successfully with ScannerPlus.
The installer places the ScannerPlus folder in the correct UE4SS Mods directory automatically.
Manual installation remains available as an alternative.
Manual installation:
Extract the included "ScannerPlus" folder into:
[Steam Library] steamapps common Subnautica2 Subnautica2 Binaries Win64 ue4ss Mods
The resulting structure should be:
... ue4ss Mods ScannerPlus
The required enabled.txt file is already included in the archive.
Configuration
ScannerPlus uses scanner_config.lua as its central configuration file.
The file contains the default values used whenever ScannerPlus is loaded, including scanner range, distance ring size, rescan interval, enabled target categories, ping color and debugging options.
Most gameplay-related settings can also be changed temporarily through the in-game ScannerPlus settings menu by pressing O.
Changes made through the in-game menu apply only to the current session.
They are not written to scanner_config.lua and are not stored in the Subnautica 2 savegame.
After restarting the game or reloading the mod, ScannerPlus uses the default values from scanner_config.lua again.

In-Game Settings
The following settings can currently be changed during gameplay:
• Maximum Search Range[/*]
• Distance Ring Size[/*]
• Empty Rescan Interval[/*]
• Scannable Objects[/*]
• Data Cards[/*]
• Black Boxes[/*]
• Quartz Chips[/*]
• Player Upgrade Terminals[/*]
These changes are temporary and remain active only for the current session.
Default values are loaded from scanner_config.lua after restarting the game or reloading ScannerPlus.
Target Selection
By default, ScannerPlus searches for supported incomplete targets within a maximum range of 200 meters.
Targets are grouped into 10-meter distance rings by default. The nearest available distance ring is preferred.
If multiple target categories are found within the same ring, ScannerPlus uses its internal category priority to select the next target.
Search range and distance ring size can be changed temporarily through the in-game settings menu or permanently by changing their default values in scanner_config.lua.
Only currently loaded world actors can be detected.
Increasing the configured scanner range therefore does not guarantee that every object within that distance is available to ScannerPlus.
Detection Range
ScannerPlus uses a default maximum search range of 200 meters.
The configured search range can be changed temporarily through the in-game settings menu or permanently by changing the default value in scanner_config.lua.
Higher values are supported by ScannerPlus, but they do not necessarily increase the effective detection range. In the current game version, Subnautica 2 appears to keep relevant world actors loaded only within approximately 250 meters around the player.
Based on testing, targets beyond this distance are generally not available to ScannerPlus even when a higher search range is configured.
The default 200-meter range is intentionally kept below the observed world streaming range to avoid unnecessary searches and reduce short game stutters.
Known Limitations
ScannerPlus searches currently loaded game actors. Depending on the distance to potential targets and the number of loaded objects, a scan may cause a short game stutter.
On older hardware, a full search may temporarily cause a brief stutter of approximately 0.2 seconds or more.
If ScannerPlus is enabled but no valid target is found, it automatically repeats the search after the configured empty rescan interval.
The default interval is 30 seconds and can be changed temporarily through the in-game settings menu.
Some objects may occasionally spawn inside terrain or otherwise become difficult to reach due to level geometry. In such cases, disabling the scanner, moving away from the area and enabling it again may select a different nearby target.
Compatibility
ScannerPlus was developed specifically for Subnautica 2 Early Access 0.1.2.2-128456.
It is currently developed and tested for single-player use only.
Multiplayer behavior has not yet been verified.
ScannerPlus uses existing Subnautica 2 classes and gameplay systems.
Future game updates may change some of these internal interfaces and could require an update to ScannerPlus.
Planned Improvements
ScannerPlus is currently considered feature-complete for its intended scope.
There are no major additional features planned at this time.
However, I am happy to review suggestions and feedback from the Nexus Mods comment section and may include useful ideas in future versions where technically reasonable.
Future development plans may change depending on game updates, technical limitations and community feedback.
