Description
Recreating the jukebox from Subnautica Below Zero, allowing you to drop any audio files you like into a folder, and use the game's pause menu coordinates to place an audio source anywhere in your game to play those audio files. The audio doesn't just play through your headphones/speakers, it acts as an in game audio source where volume drops off with distance and the sound is heavily muffled but still audible while outside your base. This was so awesome in below zero and really deserves to be in sub 2. I hope to improve the experience of using this mod and add tighter integration into the game in the near future, but for now "it just works" - todd howard. Enjoy and please feel free to give feedback it would be greatly appreciated.
Does not work in co op, but both players should be able to independently install this and use it on their own. (Haven't tested this yet) Syncing it up does not seem like an easy task, may have to wait for an official jukebox from unknown worlds for that.
Tested on Steam / Windows 11. Don't see why it wouldn't work on Epic, Xbox probably won't work though.
If updates break this mod I will do my best to fix it quickly.
Demo video is now live on youtube and in the videos tab of this mod, featuring my original and poorly mixed song
REQUIREMENTS
• UE4SS: This mod will not load without it.
INSTALLATION
1. Close the game.
2. Extract the archive into your Subnautica 2 folder — the one containing
Subnautica2.exe. On a default Steam install that is:
C: Program Files (x86) Steam steamapps common Subnautica2The archive mirrors the game's own folder layout, so everything lands in the
right place automatically:

3. Put your music in:
Subnautica2 Binaries Win64 ue4ss Mods SN2Jukebox dlls Music MP3, WAV, OGG and FLAC all work. Tracks play in order and loop forever.
4. Tell it where to play from. This step is required. Otherwise the
jukebox stays silent, because it has no idea where you want the music.
Launch the game, stand exactly where you want the music to come from, and open
the pause menu. It shows three coordinate numbers. Write them down.
Tip: the NOA terminal is a great spot. It already talks to you, so it already
has a speaker.
Quit the game, and open this file: (make sure it's the one in the actual game folder, not in downloads or somewhere else):
Subnautica2 Binaries Win64 ue4ss Mods SN2Jukebox dlls jukebox.iniFind this line:
; ingame_position = -232783, 420413, -9877Remove the semicolon at the start, and replace the three numbers with yours.
Copy them exactly as the game showed them, in the same order.
5. Launch. A few seconds after your save loads you will hear two rising beeps.
That means the jukebox is loaded and ready.
6. Press Ctrl+Alt+J to start the music.
OPTIONAL FILE: THE GUI
See the images tab of this mod to see what the GUI looks like and where to find it
Install it the same way as the main file: extract into your Subnautica 2 folder and it lands in
Subnautica2 Binaries Win64 ue4ss Mods SN2JukeboxUI
Then do this, or you will not see anything. The UE4SS debug window is turned off by default, and the panel lives inside it. Open:
Subnautica2 Binaries Win64 ue4ss UE4SS-settings.ini
Note this is a different file to jukebox.ini. It sits in the ue4ss folder itself, not in the mod folder.
Find the
[Debug]section near the bottom and set both of these to 1:
GuiConsoleEnabled = 1
GuiConsoleVisible = 1
After doing these steps, a second window will open along with the game, which is the ue4ss debug tool. You should see a tab within it called "Jukebox". This contains all of the options you would need to edit the jukebox's settings (volume, position, doppler, track switching) and can be used while you are still playing. An in game UI would be awesome I know, but UE4SS can only render through DirectX 11 or OpenGL and the game is DirectX 12.
CONTROLS
I just added a GUI built into the ue4ss debug menu, which is very simple to use and works while you are playing the game. (see above section) Try that if you don't want to bother with keyboard shortcuts and .ini file editing. This requires the optional file. Whether or not you install the optional file, these shortcuts will always work: (while the game is in focus)
Ctrl+Alt+J play / pause (this is what starts it)
Ctrl+Alt+N next track
Ctrl+Alt+B previous track
Ctrl+Alt+= louder
Ctrl+Alt+- quieter
Ctrl+Alt+R reload jukebox.ini
The music does not start on its own. That is deliberate. If you would rather it started automatically, set autoplay = true in jukebox.ini. Also if any of the shortcuts aren't working, they sometimes only register on your second try. So try them a few times before assuming they don't work.
Ctrl+Alt+R re-reads the whole config while the game is running, so you can move the jukebox, change the volume, add music, or
adjust the doppler without restarting. (doppler is off by default)
WHICH FILE DO I DOWNLOAD?
In v1.2.0, doppler effects are now solely controlled by your config (.ini file or changing it in the GUI), and it is off by default.
Everyone needs the main file, the optional file is if you want to have the GUI embedded into the ue4ss debug tool. The GUI works while you are playing the game, so it is highly recommended.
